Leung Wai Kit is one professional oboist and coach from all aspects. He helps me a lot to understand the history of the oboe and famous pieces from baroque to modern period, and points out my bad habits in playing the oboe with very high requirement and shares efficient ways to correct them. He also helps me understand how to find the right tone colour for oboe solos from different orchestral pieces. He is also an expert on oboe’s infrastructure with very solid mechanism knowledge, can help to troubleshoot the common as well as hard issues on oboe. I am glad to learn a lot from him and hope we can keep enjoying the fun together in double reed music.

I started studying oboe with Wai Kit Leung in 2017 after a twenty year hiatus from playing. I was nervous about re-commencing after such a long time away from the instrument. I took clarinet lessons when I was a kid but I stopped taking lessons after reaching Grade 3. Despite that, I kept playing clarinet, and later picked up flute and oboe. I also sing and conduct in my church choir. After a hiatus of almost 30 years, I decided to challenge myself and take Grade 8 clarinet, but then I needed to take Grade 5 theory. I found Leung Sir in Facebook by a stroke of serendipity. I decided to take theory classes from him. Thanks to Leung Sir’s structured approach, I found out that despite my previous musical experience, there were many gaps in my knowledge in music theory which I was not aware of. I am most impressed by the depth of his musical knowledge and his familiarity with vast amount of repertoires. I got 98/100 on my G5 exam!
